It's me for the inland lakes, me boys, me for the inland lakes...

This past Saturday found us visiting the folks out at the ISEA during their volunteer-appreciation potluck dinner. We attended with our friends J and J, as they had volunteered during the removal of the ship's rigging as preparation for winter layup. The evening was a great chance to talk with some of the folks over at the school, and to get a real good look at what they are all about.
The evening was spent chatting, looking at the boat, checking out the learning exhibits in the school, etc. Also, the crew treated all of us to an evening of shanties! They even let us join right in and sing along with them.
Afterwards, we headed over to a local watering hole for some beers with the crew. Apparently, by purchasing a pitcher of brew, we were invited to the next Sch00ner Union meeting. Perhaps we shall be allowed to become members.
The Academy program does not really have a traditional sailing component, which I feel is unfortunate. However, I hope I will be able to volunteer some of my time next year. But I'll probably be out to sea for most of the summer. Perhaps during the fall semester, if school workload permits.
What these folks are doing is very important. Many traditional cultures are vanishing in America, as emphasis is placed on maximum profitability at the expense of everything else, and all hastened along by our transition to the digital age.
Google map it. (Yes, I am aware of the irony. Heh.)

Bell's beer! O, how I miss it. Drink as many pints for me as you can, and look forward to summer when the Oberon comes out....
Furious,
Ah, there is still some Oberon floating around town, though the current weather suggests something more along the lines of a smooth porter.
